Iguazu Falls
- Argentine Side
The Argentinean side of
the falls provides a more intimate contact with the whole
Iguazu Falls experience. A free train carries visitors
from the gate to the falls, themselves. The small open
train has three different stations and travels through the
tropical forest.
There are also many paved
walking trails throughout the reserve; you may choose to walk
the 1/3 mile to the falls on a trail through the subtropical vegetation,
perhaps catching glimpses of wildlife and certainly
multitudes of butterflies. You are then presented with
the choice of the upper or lower circuits.
UPPER CIRCUIT
The upper circuit (Circuito Superior)
consists of trails and bridges that run along the top of the
falls. The views are FANTASTIC! You are able to
look down over many of the largest falls including the San
Martin falls and San Martin Island.
This circuit is a bit less than 1/2
mile and has six lookouts and viewing areas. The
catwalks present spectacular views of "Devil's Throat, the
premier collection of fourteen of the highest most powerful
of the falls.
LOWER CIRCUIT
The lower circuit "Circuit Inferior)
leads to the base of the falls, where undoubtedly, you will
be moistened by the spray of the might falls. There is
a boat ride to San Martin, an island that separates the
falls. This ferry ride takes you along the bottom of
the San Martin falls.
The entire loop is about one mile long.
During the circuit, you will find yourself immersed in
scenic nature full of sight, sounds, and aromas to entertain
your senses. There are eight lookout points to gather
in the majesty of the largest of the falls.
RIVER RIDE
The "Grand Adventure" starts with a
hike on narrow footpath that exudes the ambience of the
subtropical ecosystem. Multi-lingual guides point out
areas of interest and narrate information along the way.
Then you are transported by open-air truck to five miles to
a forest base of operations. Then it is a staircase
descent to the waiting power launches.
You then jet upstream along the river,
mostly calm with some rapids. Your approach to the
spectacular falls is gradual, as it is a four mile ride.
Then you will go right up to the base of several of the
falls. The experience is incredible! And yes,
you will get wet. The ride ends with disembarking on
the Low Circuit dock.

"Our
view was incredible. I know we keep using that word, but
this is one of the few things in the world that is actually
more amazing that our expectations, despite the
foreknowledge that it is one of the wonders of the world."
The sheer power is overwhelming. You come face to face with
raging sheets of water, with sprays so intense it seems as
though geysers have erupted from below."
"...this fascinating jungle zone of red soil, giant
butterflies, and comical toucans has more to offer than
jaw-dropping waterfalls."
"As
we approached the falls, we got good views up the Devil's
Throat and along the wall of Argentine falls. We got close
to the 3 Musketeers, then put the cameras away and got
doused by the San Martin falls. Mom was in the front and got
totally soaked, despite her rain poncho. The boat driver was
a bit concerned about her, but was relieved when she laughed
and enthusiastically told him to do it again. We went back
in twice more, and it was LOTS of fun. "
